Format Guidelines
A medical bill (pharmacy bill) is issued by a medical store or chemist for medicines sold. Patients use it for reimbursement from employers and health insurance, and for returns.
What a pharmacy bill should show
- Pharmacy name, address and drug sale licence number
- Patient name and the prescribing doctor
- Medicine name, batch number and expiry date for every item
- Quantity, price, discount and net amount
- Name / signature of the pharmacist or qualified person
Sales tax on medicines
Most medicines and many medical items are exempt from sales tax under the Sixth Schedule of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, so the tax rate is 0 by default. Enter a rate only if you sell taxable items on the same bill.
